Homeschooling in South Africa, your way.
Two learning options built for families who lead learning at home, from Grade 4.
You chose homeschooling because you know your child best. Teneo gives you an IEB or SACAI pathway, content created by qualified teachers and a schedule to follow. You never have to build a curriculum from scratch, and with Without Classes, our teachers do the marking too.

What is homeschooling with Teneo?
Teneo Online School offers two homeschooling options for South African families from Grade 4 to Grade 12, on the CAPS curriculum through the IEB or SACAI. In both, qualified teachers create the content for every subject lesson, with a schedule to follow. Without Classes (from R1,333.33 a month), our teachers also set, invigilate, mark and moderate your child’s assessments and write termly promotion reports, and you enrol directly with Teneo with no department registration. Without Classes and Reports (from R800 a month), you assess at home and register your child for home education with your Provincial Education Department.

Without Classes · Marking & reports included
Homeschool, with the marking and reports done for you.
Many homeschooling parents tell us the hardest part isn’t the teaching. It’s knowing whether their child is on track, and having proof of progress when it matters.
With Without Classes, you lead learning at home. Our qualified teachers create the content, mark the assessments and write the reports, and none of it is an add-on or a separate invoice. Because we assess, you enrol directly with Teneo: no home education registration with the department.

Marking and reports: we handle them, or you do.
Every Teneo learner gets the same curriculum and content created by qualified teachers. What changes is who assesses, and you only pay for the option you choose.

The legal side, made simple
How to register for homeschooling in South Africa
Whether you register with the department depends on the option you choose. With Without Classes, our teachers assess your child and you enrol directly with Teneo. With Without Classes and Reports, your child is home educated, so you register with your Provincial Education Department (PED).
Without Classes
No department registration
You enrol directly with Teneo, just like our options with classes. Our qualified teachers set, mark and moderate the assessments and write the termly reports, so there’s no application, no assessor to find and no separate portfolio to submit.

Register with your PED in four steps
- Get the form for your province from the Department of Basic Education website or your PED’s home education office.
- Gather documents: usually your child’s birth certificate, latest report, your ID, proof of address and a learning programme. Your Teneo subject list and schedule help with this.
- Submit and keep proof. Your PED confirms registration in writing. It’s free.
- Keep records of attendance, work and progress, and arrange the independent assessments your PED requires.
Joining Teneo after homeschooling?
- Grades 4 to 9: your PED registration letter, plus an assessment report from a SACE-registered assessor or a school-readiness report from an educational psychologist for your child’s 2027 grade
- Grade 10: accepted if your child was promoted from Grade 9
- Grades 11 and 12: your child must come from a school registered with the DBE, IEB or SACAI, with a promotion report
Not sure which suits your family?
If you’d rather skip the paperwork and have proof of progress every term, Without Classes is usually the simpler choice. Our Admissions team can talk it through with you.
Read the full registration guideForms and timelines differ by province. If you register with your PED, check the latest requirements with them.
Learn your way
Homeschool today. More support when you need it.
Children change as they grow. Some thrive working independently. Others reach a stage where they want a teacher to explain things live. All five Teneo options share the same curriculum, so the learning carries on whatever your child needs.

- Mix of Live and Recorded Classes With classes
- 100% Recorded Classes With classes

Single subjects available
Only need one or two subjects?
Both options are available for single subjects from Grade 4, from R145 a subject a month. Choose Teneo for the subjects you’d rather not teach yourself, like Mathematics or Physical Sciences, and keep homeschooling the rest.
