School Fees Calculator 2027: Work Out What Online School Costs Your Family

Teneo’s 2027 fees calculator shows your child’s tuition for every learning option once you choose a grade and language, then gives a full breakdown — annual tuition, 12 monthly instalments, registration, exam board fees and any add-ons. In 2027, tuition runs from R800 a month for homeschooling on content modules to R6,800 for 100% Live Classes in Grade 12. The gap between learning options in the same grade is usually larger than families expect, which is why running the calculator for every option your child could realistically use matters more than knowing the headline price.

Teneo's 2027 fees calculator shows your child's tuition for every learning option once you choose a grade and language, then a full breakdown — annual tuition, 12 monthly instalments, registration, exam board fees and add-ons. In 2027, tuition runs from R800 to R6,800 a month.

A school's starting price rarely matches what a family actually pays. The real figure depends on the grade, how your child learns, the exam board in matric, how many children you enrol and what's billed on top. Teneo's 2027 fees calculator works that out in a few clicks. This guide explains how to use it, what it includes, and — with worked examples — how to budget beyond a single year.

How to use the fees calculator, step by step

1. Choose your child's 2027 grade. Grade R to Grade 12.

2. Choose a language. English, or Afrikaans from Grade 4.

3. Compare the learning options. The calculator shows the tuition for each option available in that grade — up to five, from 100% Live Classes to homeschooling.

4. Select the option you're considering. The calculator produces the full fees breakdown.

5. Read the breakdown:

  • Annual tuition, shown alongside 12 monthly instalments

  • Registration — a once-off fee set by learning option and joining term

  • Exam board fees, where they apply — Grade 12, and on SACAI from Grade 10

  • Any paid add-ons you select, listed separately

Not sure which option fits? The Find Your Fit tool asks a few simple questions, narrows the options and recommends a starting point, with the exact 2027 fees.

What drives the number

Grade. Fees rise through primary and high school. 100% Live Classes costs R4,800 a month in Grades R to 6 and R6,800 in Grade 12 (IEB).

Learning option. The biggest single factor:

  • 100% Live Classes — a full live, teacher-led timetable

  • Mix of Live and Recorded Classes

  • 100% Recorded Classes — from Grade 4

  • Without Classes — homeschooling with teacher-marked assessments, from Grade 4

  • Without Classes and Reports — homeschooling on content modules only, from Grade 4

See what each option includes.

Exam board, from Grade 10. SACAI tuition is lower than the IEB's, SACAI has no 100% Live Classes option, and SACAI exam board fees start in Grade 10.

Registration. R1,850 on the class options, R750 for Without Classes, R500 for Without Classes and Reports — less if your child joins from term 2.

Siblings. 5% off for each child after the first, on the three class options.

Worked scenario 1: a Grade 3 learner — live or mixed?

In Grades R to 2, the only option is 100% Live Classes. Grade 3 adds a second.

  • 100% Live Classes: R4,800 a month — R57,600 a year

  • Mix of Live and Recorded Classes: R3,700 a month — R44,400 a year

  • Difference: R13,200 a year

  • Registration: R1,850 either way

What the difference buys: a full live timetable versus a mix with recorded lessons on a schedule. For a young learner, how much live contact they need matters as much as the saving.

Worked scenario 2: two children, Grade 6 and Grade 9

Both on Mix of Live and Recorded Classes:

  • Grade 9: R4,500 a month

  • Grade 6: R3,700 a month, less the 5% sibling discount = R3,515

  • Total: R8,015 a month — R96,180 a year

  • Saving from the sibling discount: R2,220 a year

  • Registration: R1,850 per child

Ask admissions which child the discount is applied to; the calculator shows each learner's fee.

The discount applies only to the class options. If one child moved to a homeschooling option, that child's fee wouldn't be discounted.

Worked scenario 3: Grade 11 — IEB or SACAI?

On 100% Recorded Classes:

  • IEB: R4,200 a month — R50,400 a year

  • SACAI: R3,000 a month — R36,000 a year

  • Difference: R14,400 a year

On Mix of Live and Recorded Classes:

  • IEB: R5,200 a month — R62,400 a year

  • SACAI: R4,400 a month — R52,800 a year

  • Difference: R9,600 a year

Remember exam board fees: SACAI charges them from Grade 10; the IEB in Grade 12. The calculator lists them separately.

Worked scenario 4: homeschooling in Grade 5

  • Without Classes: R1,333.33 a month — R16,000 a year, plus R750 registration

  • Without Classes and Reports: R800 a month — R9,600 a year, plus R500 registration

What's different: Without Classes includes assessments set and marked by Teneo's teachers, termly reports and after-school group tutorials. Without Classes and Reports provides content modules on a schedule only.

Add-ons: Without Classes can add the lesson recordings library (per subject), gap detection and academic support, and mastery reports. The calculator lists add-ons separately once selected.

Worked scenario 5: two single subjects in Grade 12

For a learner who needs Teneo's content in two subjects — for example, one already at another IEB school:

  • Without Classes and Reports, IEB, single subject: R281.25 a month each

  • Two subjects: R562.50 a month — R6,750 a year

  • On SACAI: R225 a month each — R5,400 a year for two

Admissions can confirm which subjects, grades and languages are available as single subjects.

Budgeting beyond one year: Grade 8 to matric

Fees change by grade, so a five-year view matters. At 2027 rates, here's what high school costs in tuition alone:

Mix of Live and Recorded Classes, IEB

  • Grade 8: R52,200

  • Grade 9: R54,000

  • Grade 10: R61,200

  • Grade 11: R62,400

  • Grade 12: R63,600

  • Five-year total: R293,400

Mix of Live and Recorded Classes, SACAI from Grade 10

  • Grades 8 and 9: R106,200

  • Grades 10 to 12: R52,800 a year — R158,400

  • Five-year total: R264,600

100% Recorded Classes, SACAI from Grade 10

  • Grades 8 and 9: R34,800 a year — R69,600

  • Grades 10 to 12: R36,000 a year — R108,000

  • Five-year total: R177,600

Totals use 2027 rates throughout. Fees in later years may change; registration is once-off; exam board fees are extra.

Joining partway through 2027

The calculator assumes a full year, but you don't have to start in January. Teneo accepts enrolments all year.

  • Registration is lower for learners who join from term 2

  • Tuition is billed from the 1st of the month in which your child starts, regardless of the start date that month

  • Learning options can be changed in the first term of the school year, by form, before the monthly cut-off

Talk to admissions for the exact figure if your child is joining mid-year.

What the calculator doesn't include

These sit outside Teneo's fees:

  • Textbooks and stationery — see stationery and textbooks

  • A computer — Windows or Apple, 2021 or newer; roughly R8,000 to R10,000 if buying

  • Internet — at least 20 Mbps; entry-level uncapped fibre from around R450 to R600 a month

  • Backup power — four hours; a router mini-UPS from around R600 to R1,200

Add these to the calculator's figure for a true annual budget.

Tips for getting the most accurate figure

  • Run the calculator for every option your child could realistically use — the gap between options is often larger than families expect

  • Check exam board fees early for Grades 10 to 12, especially on SACAI

  • Note the joining term — registration is lower from term 2

  • Price each child separately, then apply the sibling discount on class options

  • Plan the matric year — Grade 12 enrolment closes earlier, on the exam boards' cut-off dates, and Teneo's fee policy requires Grade 12 exam board fees by 31 March

For the full price list, see the Teneo 2027 fees guide. When you're ready, see the enrolment guide, or talk to admissions.
